AI is changing what effective leadership looks like faster than most organizations are changing how they identify and develop leaders. The article argues that expertise alone is no longer enough, because leaders now need stronger judgment, adaptability, systems thinking, and the ability to operate in ambiguity as AI reshapes decisions and work. It also warns that many development models remain too episodic and backward-looking, leaving organizations vulnerable to overreliance on AI, weaker critical thinking, and leadership pipelines that are not built for future demands. Organizations that respond best will redefine leadership expectations, assess potential more rigorously, and build development experiences that strengthen reflection, learning, and long-term adaptability.
