Russell Reynolds Associates: Using Leadership Span to Help Assess Executive Dualities

Russell Reynolds presents its research collaboration with Hogan Assessment Systems regarding the personality traits, leadership styles, and specific qualities that make up effective CEOs. Their studies have found that certain qualities which can be extremely beneficial in an executive can also be the same qualities that can hurt their success in senior positions, if not harnessed correctly.

Russell Reynolds and Hogan have created Leadership Span, an assessment tool to evaluate how senior executives will handle these four major dualities:

  • Being both disruptive and pragmatic
  • Being both risk-taking and reluctant
  • Being both heroic and vulnerable
  • Being both galvanizing and connecting
