GDPR greatly impacts the executive search and leadership consulting profession in Europe and across the globe. The regulation changes the parameters of data privacy and strengthens the requirements of consent. It applies to everything that firms do with personal data for people, including their candidates and clients. By May 25, 2018, businesses must be compliant with the regulation or face financial consequences. Penalties for non-compliance of the regulation are severe with maximum fines up to 20 million euro or 4% of worldwide turnover. Carol has over 22 years of Executive Search experience focusing primarily on senior roles within the consumer, industrial and energy markets both in the UK and Internationally. Her experience includes a variety of functions including finance and HR, senior management and sales roles. She has considerable experience of working on assignments based in the Middle East including searches based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Oman and the UAE for a variety of local and international clients. In addition to providing Research Services she runs bespoke learning and development programmes. Clients have been based in the UK, Europe, Asia, Russia and the USA. She is a regular speaker at conferences. Carol spent seventeen years as a Research Director at Russell Reynolds Associates providing a leadership role in research development in addition to her client facing research role. Carol joined Russell Reynolds in 1995 from SBC Warburg where she was a Senior Researcher working in the corporate finance and equities team for six years. Prior to that she held research positions with Arbuthnot Latham Bank and Coopers and Lybrand in London. Carol holds a BA (Hons) degree in History from The University of York and a postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Science from Leeds Beckett University. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) and a Committee Member of the Executive Research Association, theera.org. Carol was awarded the AESC Award for Professionalism and Excellence in 2007.
Abdullah Mutawi is a bi-lingual partner in the firm's Dubai office with over 20 years' experience practicing in London and the Middle East. Abdullah's primary area of practice is corporate finance and cross-border M&A with particularly substantial experience in Telecom and Technology investments at all levels of the value chain. In addition to leading the firm's technology practice in the Middle East, Abdullah has also undertaken many transactions in the energy, infrastructure, transportation, industrial and retail sectors. Abdullah's clients include public and private companies, sovereign wealth funds, banks, private equity funds, venture capital firms and family offices and the M&A transactions on which he has led have involved assets in 28 developed and emerging markets and with an aggregate value of US$20 billion. An integral part of Abdullah's technology focus is cyber-security and Abdullah regularly advises on information-security, cyber-crime and cyber-risk in transactional, pre-emptive and risk-reallocation contexts as well as in relation to incident-response situations. In addition to his technology experience, Abdullah has also represented clients in a number of high profile insolvency and re-structuring mandates and has developed strong experience in advising on financial distress situations arising from fraud and white collar crime. His experience includes advising regulators, banks, debtors, creditors and shareholders in connection with insolvency, distress and restructuring mandates involving aggregate liabilities of US$7 billion and assets in Europe, the U.S., the Middle East and East and West sub-Saharan Africa.
Patrick is based in Hong Kong and leads the membership team for the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions. He also holds responsibility for AESC education programs for researchers and associates. Before joining the AESC in 2013, Patrick was an executive search consultant with a boutique firm in the higher education sector. He worked on a number of senior academic appointments in: Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Macau, China, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, the UAE, Kuwait and Pakistan. Patrick was also responsible for overseeing a team of search consultants and researchers. Patrick has an M.A in Asian and International Studies with distinction from City University of Hong Kong, ranked one of the top universities in Asia. He also has a graduate diploma in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), a B.A in Social Policy from Massey University, a Certificate in Executive Search and Leadership Consulting from Cornell University, and a Certificate in Corporate Human Resource Management from the HK Management Association.
Mr. Holmes' executive search career spans over 20 years and six countries, where he has undertaken general management searches across a range of geographies and industries including: industrial, consumer and healthcare. Prior to his current position, he was the Office Managing Director for Korn Ferry's Seoul office for 10 years. Previously, Mr. Holmes was a consultant with Carre, Orban & Partners which merged with Korn Ferry in 1993 where he initially focused on the consumer goods and healthcare sectors. After the merger, he broadened his practice to cover transnational search work across a range of industries in Northern Europe. Mr. Holmes has served as a resident consultant in India, Russia, Singapore and South Korea, where he was responsible for growing the Firm's business. During his four years as the Country Manager in Russia, Mr. Holmes successfully made Korn Ferry the leading executive search firm in the Russian market, while personally undertaking assignments throughout Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States, principally in the Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Subsequently, he managed the Firm's offices in Mumbai and New Delhi for three years as Country Head of India. After that, he led the ASEAN healthcare practice from Singapore before moving to Seoul. A British citizen, Mr. Holmes holds a bachelor's degree of science (with honours) in geology jointly offered by the University of Greenwich and the University of North London.
Wassim Karkabi serves as the global head of board and executive assessment at Stanton Chase, he is a seasoned executive search and executive coaching expert with over a decade of experience across the leadership spectrum. He is a shareholder and Managing Partner at Stanton Chase Middle East, based in the Dubai office, and a shareholder in the Moscow office of Stanton Chase.Wassim Karkabi has successfully advised a variety of international and regional organizations on their strategic and leadership concerns, and has completed senior executive assignments in Executive Search, Executive Assessment, Executive Coaching and Business Growth Coaching in the Middle East and more specifically in the Gulf countries since 1997. He has served leading multinational and regional holding companies as well as local companies and has worked closely with and completed assignments for clients in a variety of industrial sub-sectors. Wassim Karkabi advises clients on their leadership issues, and acquire, assess, and grow their leaders to achieve the strategic goals of the business. Over fifteen years’ experience in ‘Finance, Human Resources, Strategic Planning, Customer Service and Operational Management’ with a unique ability to achieve people optimization through buy-in to vision and change strategies. Clare was previously Director of Executive Programs and Councils, Europe for The Conference Board, a position she held for nearly 5 years. She was also the Vice President and member of the Professional Women International Board in Brussels. Clare is a dynamic, resilient and result orientated leader, an enabler of operational transformation, a change agent from conception to delivery. Clare Woodcraft was hired as the CEO of Emirates Foundation with a remit to transition its model from traditional philanthropy to a more catalytic approach that could maximize impact at scale. In the course of six years, she has transformed the organization into a high impact entity creating long-term systematic solutions for 90,000 youth in the UAE. During this time, she also served as the Chair of the Arab Foundations Forum, a regional professional network, where she has been leading discussions on how to professionalize the third sector and create stronger outcomes for foundations and other social organizations. She is regularly asked to speak about the 'paradigm shift' in philanthropy and to advise on how corporates can better channel their own social investment funds. As the Deputy Director of Shell Foundation, she helped oversee a global portfolio of angel investments in social enterprises working on energy related issues. Prior to this, she served as Shell's Director of Communications in the Middle East and North Africa overseeing a multi-million dollar portfolio of social investments. She has spent most of her career working in emerging markets with a special focus on finance and the Middle East. She is fluent in Arabic and French having studied language as an undergraduate and also has an MSc in Development from the London School of Economics.
