Chief Strategy Officer Tops CIO, CTO & Chief Marketing Officer Again in 2007, According to Survey by Association of Executive Search Consultants

NEW YORK, January 29, 2007 - A survey of 507 senior executives worldwide reveals 42 percent say that other than the CEO and CFO, the Chief Strategy Officer will be the most powerful C-level title in 2007. The poll was conducted from January 1-11, 2007, by the Association of Executive Search Consultants (AESC) on Bluesteps.com, the AESC's career management site for senior executives. The same survey was conducted for 2006, with the Chief Strategy Officer coming in on top at 57 percent. Full results of both polls are below.

Respondents were asked, "Aside from the CEO and CFO, which of the following C-level titles will be the most powerful in the coming year? (Choose up to 3.)"

"It's all about strategy. Any company that can't define its strategy can't effectively executive on anything. It's that simple. The CEO runs the company and the CFO holds the purse strings, and between the two, they wield a great deal of power. But today's CEO has been cast in the role of 'Chief Execution Officer.' It's the Chief Strategy Officer who creates a unified and executable strategy across the corporation. In global companies with distributed authority, the Chief Strategy Officer will be key in communicating the strategy across the various business units in locales around the world," said Peter Felix, President of the Association of Execution Search Consultants.
